Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze’s Lib Dem Councillors welcome the installation of the long-awaited zebra crossing on Canford Lane.

Local residents and Lib Dem campaigners have fought for nearly ten years for a pedestrian crossing to be installed along the busy Canford Lane in Westbury. Now, they can finally rejoice as the new crossing has been completed.

Councillors Nicholas Coombes, Caroline Gooch and Stephen Williams gathered with local campaigners on 10th January to mark their victory – and test out the new crossing, which sits near the entrance to Canford Park Cemetery.

The local Councillors said: “We are delighted that we were able to finally ensure the completion of the crossing on Canford Lane. This much-needed improvement will provide a safer route into Westbury village for residents of Canford Lane.

“Although funding was allocated five years ago for the works, delays meant that inflation caused the costs to exceed the budget. Last year, following pressure from us as your new Lib Dem Councillors, the design was rationalised to save unnecessary costs, and the work was able to go ahead.”

The Lib Dem Councillors will continue to listen to residents’ calls for road safety improvements and campaign for their installation at the City Council.
